Description:

FTP'ing an Adabas ADASAV or ADAULD file to CA requires converting the variable-blocked file created by the Adabas ADASAV or ADAULD utility into a fixed-blocked format data set that can be correctly transmitted by FTP.

Solution:

  1. Run the Adabas ADASAV/ADAULD utility. (Resulting in a VB format data set.)

  2. Go to the TSO command facility (usually option 6 in ISPF) and execute the XMIT command to create a fixed-blocked (FB) format data set from the variable-blocked format (VB) data set.
    XMIT USERID.SPC DA('adasav.vb.file') OUTDS('adasav.fb.file')
You will see some messages indicating that the "transmission" has occurred. These messages are normal. The new 'adasav.fb.file' data set will be created as a physical sequential (PS) data set with a format of fixed-blocked (FB), LRECL 80 bytes, and blocksize 3120 bytes.

  3. Use FTP to transfer the new file ('adasav.fb.file') in BINARY mode to the CA FTP server - ftpu.ca.com.

Put the file in the subdirectory associated with your issue number. The subdirectory name will be in the form -
    incoming\siteid\issue-no

Note: You must specify the entire path name as shown above in the CD command. The CA server does not permit drilling down one directory at a time to the subdirectories.
