Introduction:

How to locate a particular string in a CA IPC VLS Source library.

Question:

Is there a utility that can be used to scan a CA IPC VLS source library for a particular string?

Environment:

z/OS, z/VSE

Answer:

There are a couple of ways you can search for a particular string in a CA IPC VLS Source File.

To scan the VLS source file you can either:

  1. Use VLSUTIL SCAN  Function (see the CA IPC Implementation Guide for z/OS).

  2. Use Source Transport utility (IDUTSTRN) to transport the entities to an external source file then scan the external source file with a scan utility.

  3. Use GET$DATE. This sample application will scan the VLS source library to find all the programs that use $DATE and $INTERNAL-DATE. This CA Ideal code can easily be modified to search for any value in the PDL source. The GET$DATE application is attached.

Additional Information:

For additional information on VLSUTIL SCAN, please see the CA IPC Implementation Guide for z/OS.

For additional information on Source Transport (IDUTSTRN), please see the CA Ideal Working in the Environment Reference Guide.
