Question:

We have requirement to monitor number of TCP connections or sessions to specific devices and set threshold to generate alarm if it exceeds a specific threshold. Is there any way to monitor the TCP connections?

Answer:

A SpectroWATCH can be created on the tcpCurrEstab attribute id 0x10086 which is supported on the SNMP2_Agent application model associated with the device model. The following is the mib definition of the tcpCurrEstab attribute:

tcpCurrEstab OBJECT-TYPE

                SYNTAX Gauge32 (0 .. 4294967295)

                ACCESS read-only

                STATUS current

                DESCRIPTION

                "The number of TCP connections for which the current stateis either ESTABLISHED or CLOSE- WAIT."

                ::= { tcp 9 }
