In order to manage and thereby assign and load a particular OS onto a PXE machine, the PXE machine first needs to report itself back to the domain and needs to be visible in Desktop and Server Management. (DSM) Explorer. In a configuration where the PXE machine reports to a bootserver on the Scalability Server there may be a delay for the PXE machine to be reported back in the domain.

If it is important that the PXE machine needs to be managed and the OS needs to be assigned before the PXE machine has reported back, then the following command can be used.

Also if there is a list of MAC addresses that needs to be entered in a batch then it is easy to create a batch file with multiples of this command, one for each MAC address.

The command is:

"cadsmcmd targetcomputer action=create name=<Computer Name> computertype=machine macaddress=<MAC Address> address=<IP Address ? Fully Qualified Name> os=<Operating System>
softwaremanagedsystem=<y ? n> bootserver=<Bootserver Hostname> osimage=<OS Image Name>
stagingserver=<Scalability Server>"

After running this command the PXE machine can then be managed from the DSM Explorer.
