Introduction:
This tutorial explains how to install Dollar Universe 6 on a Windows 2008 cluster (with Failover Cluster feature installed).
Note: This topic does not explain how to setup a Windows cluster and its administration.
Background:

Prerequisites

  • 2 Windows 2008 R2 servers with "Failover cluster" feature installed

  • A shared volume dedicated to Dollar Universe 6 (called "G:" in this example)

  • An access point: A name and IP address available and registered in the DNS will be dedicated to Dollar Universe 6 (this IP address is different from the logical IP address already existing and dedicated to cluster administration)

Environment:
Windows 2008 R2 servers with "Failover cluster"
Instructions:

Install Dollar Universe 6

  • Log on to active node of the cluster

  • Open Failover Cluster administration GUI

  • Browse the tree to "Services and Applications

  • Choose "More actions... > Create empty service or application

  • Give it a name (example : <company>_<nodename>) and press enter

  • Go to "Add a resource... > Access Point"

  • Enter a name and an IP address (static IP address recommended). You are supposed to have created the corresponding entry in DNS before.

  • Click Next, confirm and click Next

  • Access point is created

Right click on it and choose "Bring this resource online", and check the access point with a ping command.

Run Dollar Universe 6 setup

  • Use Custom Mode and select "Primary cluster installation" option; Enter UVMS coordinates and click Next

  • Enter company and access point name as node name. Click validate.

  • Enter an installation directory located on shared volume (example : G:\SocieteQualif\QAPROD\frvtmqclu01). Click Next

  • Enter your manager options and click Next.

  • Enter port (if non default), access point as server hostname, tags if any, and any other area than X. Click Next

  • Modify bin directory to a local volume. Example : E:\SocieteQualif\QAPROD_frvtmqclu01 (Warning : remove \bin at the end because it is automatically appended by the setup)

  • Leave the path of the log directory to the shared volume.

  • Check all your options and click Install.

After installation completes

Checking on Dollar Universe side:

  • Once installation is finished, check that everything is OK : check universe.log, the DUAS services in services panel, the registering in UVMS (via nodes list in UVC)

  • Stop all DUAS services (service users included)

  • Get the values.xml file and copy it to root of shared volume

On the Secondary cluster

  • Log on to the 2nd node which is now the active node

  • Run Dollar Universe 6 setup.

  • Choose Custom Mode and "Secondary Cluster installation" option. Click Next

  • Enter the path of the values.xml you had previously copied at the root of the shared volume. Example : G:\

  • Click Next

  • Check the installation summary and click Install

  • Binary and services are installed on this second node in the same local path as on the primary node.

  • Check that everything is OK on this 2nd node (universe.log, services)

Then

  • Go back to Failover cluster administration panel

  • Browse the tree to Services and applications > <your DUAS application> created at at the beginning

  • Choose "Add a resource ... > Generic Service

  • The list of all services is displayed. Choose the DUAS IO_X service

  • DUAS IO_X service is added to your application and is first shown as offline.

  • Repeat the 3 previous steps to add all other DUAS services (EEP_X, service user for interactive desktop, and service user for administrator

  • Click "Services and applications ><your DUAS application> > Add Storage

  • Choose the shared volume where Dollar Universe 6 node is installed. Click OK

  • Edit properties of resource corresponding to IO_X service

  • In dependencies tab, add "Access point name" AND "IP address of access point" AND "Cluster disk

  • Edit properties of resource corresponding to EEP_X service

  • In dependencies tab, add "IO_X service

  • Edit properties of all other resources corresponding to service users

  • In dependencies tab, add "IO_X service

  • Bring online all resources shown offline in <your DUAS application>
