Introduction:

If the CA Client Automation Domain Manager does not have access to the Internet the "Default Software Content Download Job" will not work.

In this situation a second machine with Internet access is needed in order to download the Software Content database and export it to the Domain Manager. The CIC (Content Import Client) tool could be used to do this.

Environment:
All versions of CA Client Automation
Instructions:

If the DSM Domain Manager (version 11.2 or 12.0) does not have access to the Internet the "Default Software Content Download Job" will not work.

In this situation a second machine with Internet access is needed in order to download the Software Content database and export it to the DSM Domain Manager. The CIC tool could be used to do this.

Solution:

  1. Installing the CIC tool on the DSM Domain Manager (without Internet Access)

    • The CIC source could be found on the R12 DVD in directory WindowsProductFiles_x86\CIC.

Note: In case of CA ITCM R12, this step is not needed as CIC is automatically installed.

    • Execute the CIC setup.exe and follow the installation wizard.

      • In "Connection Configuration" choose the option "Internet Offline, Database Connected".

        Figure 1

      • In "MDB Database Configuration" enter the required details for the database connection.

        Figure 2

      • In License Configuration, fill the fields as below:
        Application Name : DSMLicense Key : PMDSM-00000-00000-00001Application Id : B1B13849-08D1-4DA6-91EA-2D278E5F00CCMDB Role : ca_itrm_group
        Figure 3

      • Follow the others screen as prompted and click on the Install button. CIC will be installed on the Domain Manager.

  2. Installing the CIC tool on a machine which has Internet access

    • Execute the CIC setup.exe and follow the installation wizard.

      • In "Connection Configuration" choose the option "Internet Online, Database Disconnected".

        Figure 4

      • In License Configuration, fill the fields as below:
        Application Name : DSMLicense Key : PMDSM-00000-00000-00001Application Id : B1B13849-08D1-4DA6-91EA-2D278E5F00CCMDB Role : ca_itrm_group
        Figure 5

      • In "CA Content Import Client" enter the proxy information if a proxy is used for Internet Connection:

        Figure 6

      • Follow the installation wizard as prompted and click on the Install button. CIC will be installed on the machine with Internet Access.

  3. Get the request file from the mdb Database

    • On the DSM Domain Manager (without Internet Access), open a DOS prompt and execute the following:

      cd "c:\program files\CA\SC\CIC\BIN"
      run -R

    • If all is OK you should see a window as show in the screenshot below:

      Figure 7

Note: If an error occurs, look at the file C:\PROGRAM FILES\CA\SC\CIC\LOGS\CIC.log.

    • A file 'OfflineStagingRequest' is created in the C:\Program Files\CA\SC\CIC\staging folder. Copy this file to the C:\Program Files\CA\SC\CIC\staging directory on the CIC machine with Internet Access. (Create the C:\PROGRAM FILES\CA\SC\CIC\staging directory if it does not exist)

  4. Download the Software Content files

    • On the CIC machine with Internet access open a DOS prompt and execute the following:

      cd "c:\program files\CA\SC\CIC\BIN"
      run -S

    • If all is OK you should see a window like below:

      Figure 8

Note: If an error occurs, look at the file C:\Program Files\CA\SC\CIC\LOGS\CIC.log

    • Some zip files will be created in the C:\Program Files\CA\SC\CIC\staging some folder.

  5. Import the Software Content in database

    • Copy all the contents of the C:\Program Files\CA\SC\CIC\staging directory from the CIC machine to the C:\PROGRAM FILES\CA\SC\CIC\staging directory on the Domain Manager.

    • Open a DOS prompt and execute the following:

      cd "c:\program files\CA\SC\CIC\BIN"
      run -P

    • If all is OK you should see a window like below:

      Figure 9

Note: If an error occurs, look at file C:\Program Files\CA\SC\CIC\LOGS\CIC.log

Repeat the steps 3, 4 and 5 every time the Software Content database needs to be updated with new software definitions.
