How is the Project Management system option 'Automatically Open Staff Members for Time Entry' supposed to work when adding a new team member?

Solution:

The option 'Automatically Open Staff Members for Time Entry' feature works in conjunction with the object Team attribute 'Open', when the default is unchecked.

The Administration, Project Management: Settings, 'Automatically Open Staff Members for Time Entry' feature works in conjunction with the Team attribute 'Open' (ID=prIsOpen).  The Team 'Open' attribute is labeled as 'Open for Time Entry' on the page views.

Configuration Scenario #1: Use Team Object setting

When the Team attribute 'Open' has the Default field checked, then the option for 'Automatically Open Staff Members for Time Entry' is ignored and the Team Staff Member will be set to 'Open for Time Entry' (checked) at the time the resource is added to the Team.

To set the Team, 'Open' attribute to checked:

  1. Navigate to Administration, Studio: Objects, Team, Attributes Tab  
  2. Locate the 'Open' field, click on the link to open the properties page   
  3. Set the 'Default' field to checked 

Team Open for Time Entry Checked

Configuration Scenario #2: Use System Level setting

When the Team attribute 'Open' has the Default field unchecked then the option for 'Automatically Open Staff Members for Time Entry' is used to automatically set the Open field based on the option selected. (Never, When Hard-Booked, When Request Status is Approved).  When the resource is added to the Team, the Team 'Open' attribute is unchecked, so it is not 'Open for Time Entry' yet.  So then the system level settings will be used at a time specified by the option configured.

To set the Team, 'Open' attribute unchecked:

  1. Navigate to Administration, Studio: Objects, Team, Attributes Tab  
  2. Locate the 'Open' field, click on the link to open the properties page 
  3. Set the 'Default' field to unchecked

Team Open for Time Entry Unchecked

To set the system setting, 'Automatically Open Staff Members for Time Entry' attribute:

  1. Navigate to Administration, Project Management: Settings
  2. Select one of the three available values for 'Automatically Open Staff Members for Time Entry' attribute: Never, When Hard-Booked, When Request Status is Approved
