Introduction:

There are two way the new activex control can be put on users's machines:

  1. By someone with administrative rights doing it manually on the user's machine
  2. By creating a script to distribute ERMHelper2AX.ocx file on users' workstations.

Background:
12.1 Web Viewer administrators would review this document if corporate policy prohibits users from downloading Activex Controls (.OCX files) during the course of regular Web Viewer use - printing, emailing, etc.
Instructions:
Process to get ActiveX on user machines for Web Viewer 12.1
  • Retrieve the ERMHelper2AX.cab file from the Web Viewer Server in:
 	<installed path>/<server app [Tomcat,WebSphere]>/webapps/CAOMWebViewer12/ActiveX
    for example:
   C:\Program Files\CA\CA_OM_Web_Viewer\apache-tomcat-8.5.24\webapps\CAOMWebViewer12\ActiveX
..and unzip the file to get the ERMHelper2AX.ocx
...or
  • copy the ERMHelper2AX.ocx file from another machine that is working
  • The ERMHelper2AX.ocx file should then be placed in:
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files
...on the user's machine or any other desired location
  • Once the file is in place, open the Command Prompt as administrator and change into that directory and register it with the command:
 	regsvr32 ERMHelper2AX.ocx

The user(s) should now be able to print/email with 12.1 Web Viewer.

Additional Information:
Please note that in some 64bit environments (like Windows 2008 R2/2012 R2/2016 Servers) most utilities, including the command prompt, must be run "as administrator" to insure the appropriate registering of the 32bit ActiveX Control.

The Certificate for the ActiveX Control, used for printing and MAPI emailing, expired on February 28, 2015. Under typical situations, any new user will be unable to download this control using the browser. Existing users should not be affected.

Apply this maintenance:

For Web Viewer r12.1
Any CUMULATIVE BUILD 160 or above. Includes a new ActiveX control which will extend the expiration of the certificate to April 2019.  You should apply the latest maintenance. See KB000011474 How to locate the latest build (maintenance) for CA Output Management Web Viewer 12.1?
