Introduction:
Within the Visualizer component of CA Service Desk Manager you have the ability to create filters to reduce the number of configuration items that display. There may be some confusion on how the filtering works and why certain results are seen.
Question:
I'm trying to filter out certain CIs from Visualizer, but the filter doesn't appear to work. What is going on?
Answer:
When creating a filter each attribute should be viewed as a separate query joined together to the other attributes with an "OR" statement. For example:

You can create a filter to specifying certain Family, Classes, Status or Locations.
Filter Options

In the above example I have select "Hardware.Server" for the Family and "Active" for the Status. When the query is constructed it treats each of these sections as separate, so the query would be:

where family = Hardware.Server OR Status = Active

This means that you will see CIs that are a "Hardware.Server" but NOT Active Status. It also means that you will see CIs that are "Active" Status but NOT Hardware.Server.
It's not possible to filter a CI based on all the attributes specified.

Furthermore, if you were filtering based on "Status" and you had an Inactive CI with active CIs related to it, you will still see the Inactive CI if the Hierarchical level would allow their relationships to Active CIs to be included.
