Introduction:
We have picked up a new suite of products and I want to add them to the ACT.
Question:

How do I determine what to specify for application Type in the TPX ACT (Application Characteristics Table)?

Answer:

In general, unless otherwise specified in the System Programmer Guide (Chapter 4: Customizing for Certain Applications), all applications should be able to tolerate GRP.

From online help:

Type (SHR,GRP,UNQ,TPX) - Describes the application's virtual terminal requirements:

  • SHR - for applications that support parallel virtual terminal sessions. Examples: TSO, ROSCOE, Remote Console/MVS
  • GRP - for applications that can share a virtual terminal with other applications. Examples: IMS, CICS.
  • UNQ - for applications that require a separate virtual terminal for each user. Example: INFO/NET.
  • TPX - for TPX internal applications.
