Description:

As manpower resources change, IT professionals frequently find themselves responsible for products with which they are unfamiliar and need to find the status. This tells you how to quickly determine what release of VISION:Builder, previously known as MARK IV, is executing in your shop. This job is also valid for VISION:Two, previously known as Answer/2.

Solution:

Some shops use naming conventions in their High Level Qualifiers, but the most definitive way to ascertain what release of VISION:Builder you have is to run the following job:

   //BANNER  EXEC PGM=MARKIV,REGION=0M
   //STEPLIB    DD DISP=SHR,DSN=your.vision.builder.loadlib
   //*
   //* AN S806 ABEND FOR MARKCTLC INDICATES AN OLD RELEASE AND
   //* A COMLIB LOADLIB MUST BE ADDED TO THE STEPLIB CONCATENATION
   //*
   //M4INPUT DD *
   BANNERPGRC
   /*
   //M4LIB    DD DUMMY
   //M4LIST   DD SYSOUT=*

This job will generate a banner page with a box bordered by asterisks at the top and center. The first line will have the product name followed by the release. This is what you see for release 15.0, which is the current release:

      *********************************************************
      *    Advantage VISION:Builder for z/OS - Version 15.0   *
      *                                                       *
      * (C) 2005 Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) *
      *********************************************************

The first line for older releases is slightly different as the model number used to be included, but the release number is still at the end of that line. For example, here are the first lines from runs against 14.0 and 13.8, respectively:

           VISION:Builder   4400  (OS/390 - 14.0)
           VISION:Builder   4400  (MVS - 13.8)
