Introduction:

Description:

We are trying to find where we can adjust the min/max connections that the policy server creates to the various DataSources that we configure. Where can this are adjusted for the following components: (SiteMinder user_store, audit_store and session_store).

Solution:

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry.
Before you modify the registry, make sure to create back up of the registry and ensure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem may occur.
For more information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, please review the relevant Microsoft Knowledge Base articles on support.microsoft.com.

For 6.0 Policy Servers, the maximum number of connections is determined dynamically, it is based on maximum number of threads specified in the Policy Server Management console under the settingsĀ tab. The MAX will equal five times the number of threads specified.

In previous versions of the Policy Server, The following registry setting specifies the maximum number of active sessions that may be allowed to a User Directory at a given time:

Netegrity\SiteMinder\CurrentVersion\Database\UserDirectoryConnections

If you are upgrading to the 6.0 Policy Servers from a 5.x Policy Server, remove the UserDirectoryConnections registry setting. If you do not, and the value specified by the setting is less than the maximum number of threads calculated by the Policy Server, your Policy Server logs will contain many error messages. These messages will indicate that the value of the registry setting overrides the maximum number of connections calculated by the Policy Server.
