Description:

When installing hotfix patch H04 for Spectrum version 9.2 on a box that has Spectrum OneClick and CABI also installed you may see an error exit value 128 during the host evaluation section of the install process.

The following is seen when installing H04 on an OneClick and CABI box

Solution:

Exit code 128 happens in this case because the system has hit the desktop heap limit. Desktops are associated with window stations. A window station can contain zero or more desktops. The size of the desktop heap allocated for a desktop associated with a window station can be changed in the registry. The Microsoft article noted below details how to make the registry change that will resolve exit code 128 and talks about what each section of the registry entry does.

Also, review the Windows Event logs for the following events:

SOCKET ERROR An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.

Source BusinessObjects crproc
Tried to allocate 40 windows desktops but only able to allocate 35 of them.
The system may have reached its windows desktop limit. Please contact your system administrator.

Source BusinessObjects fcproc
Tried to allocate 2 windows desktops but only able to allocate 0 of them.
The system may have reached its windows desktop limit. Please contact your system administrator.

A quick workaround is to shut down the CABI services and rerun the install of H04. This should get you past the Host Evaluation piece and allow you to install the hotfix. A more permanent solution is to perform the steps in support.microsoft.com/kb/184802/ and reboot the machine. After doing this you will be able to successfully install the hotfix without shutting down the CABI services.
