High CPU use on unloaded (Dev) server

Last Modified Date : 16/05/2018

Issue:
A high CPU use has been seen on an SDM 12.9 unloaded (Development) server.

It appears to be correlated with the SDM maileater process reading new email, and "Corrupt ALLOCATOR" messages in the stdlogs.

However, CPU stil high even with maileater disabled.

The web client and the server become unresponsive.
Environment:
CA Service Desk Manager 12.9.
Resolution:
This was a Development system, and there was a large number of Notifications being generated.

80,000 Open Call Requests were Closed, and the system stabilised.

There was also a patch provided, but it may not have been required for the solution.

ROB #: 3618 FN: T5U3489 FT: D33 DATE: 28 Sep 2016
STARTRAK PRODUCT NAME: USRD (Star Problem Product)
PROBLEM SYMPTOM: WIN-PDM_MAIL_NXD AND SPELSRVR PROCESS HANG WITH ALLOCATOR ERROR

Please see CA Support if this is required, as this point fix is not available in a Cumulative Patch, as SDM 12.9 is End of Service.

IMPORTANT
CA ITSM 17 and above features a fully redesigned Mail process around Java, instead of the existing maileater and mail processes.
Upgrading to this release is recommended to take advantage of this refined functionality which addresses many of the issues seen with the older technology.
