Issue:

Filewatcher jobs fail with the following error in the auto_rem* log:

watch: popen filesize errno <11>

Environment:

AIX

Cause:

The AIX UNIX user trying to run the filewatcher job cannot start any more processes on the target machine as it has reached its maximum number of simultaneous user processes it is allowed to launch.

Resolution:

This can be overcome by increasing the AIX kernel parameter "maxuproc" for the user who owns the job. This will allow the user to start more simultaneous "auto_remote" processes.

Kernel parameter maxuproc can be modified via SMIT (AIX's menu-based system administration utility) or the command line utility chdev.

To see the current maxuproc setting of a user, use the lsattr command.

Example:
/etc/lsattr -E -l sys0 -a maxuproc

To change the value of the maxuproc parameter, use the chdev command.

Example:
/etc/chdev -l sys0 -a maxuproc = 200
