Issue:

Performance on the server is extremely slow and following error repeatedly generated in stdlogs:
1484 EBR::MyTimerFunction()::Garbage collection timeout=-842150451::Search queue size=0.

The bpeid_nxd process is also consuming 50% CPU on a dual processor server.

Environment:
CA Service Desk Manager, release 12.9 and earlier.

Cause:
Issue may be caused by absence of one or both of these files in the SDM install directory:
$NX_ROOT/site/dic.ebr and $NX_ROOT/site/0.ebr.

pdm_k_reindex utility utilizes these files as well as files in the $NX_ROOT/site/ebr directory for re-indexing purposes.

Resolution:
Confirm the existence of the following files:

    $NX_ROOT/site/dic.ebr and $NX_ROOT/site/0.ebr.

If they are not present, please contact CA Support.  These files are essential to the operation of the pdm_k_reindex utility and are written to every time a new knowledge document is created or a document is indexed.

Another solution is to change the NX.env variable:

    @EBR_VERSION=FILES

to

    @EBR_VERSION=DBMS

This will force the pdm_k_reindex utility to use database queries instead of the files in the $NX_ROOT/site/ebr directory for re-indexing purposes.
