Introduction:

It may be needed to poll a device on backup IP when the primary IP is down. The device is discovered on Primary IP and if primary IP goes down, the device is still accessible on secondary IP. CAPM should be able to poll the device on secondary IP.

Question:

Is it possible for CAPM to poll a device on backup/secondary IP when primary IP goes down? When dual IP polling is supported by CAPM?

Environment:
CAPM 2.6 through 3.1
Answer:

Dual IP polling is not supported in CAPM. When primary IP/NIC goes down, then there is no way to specify CAPM to poll a device on secondary IP.

Rather, you can configure NIC teaming on the device and make sure that there is always a redundancy. If one NIC goes down, other NIC will automatically respond to SNMP poll requests and the device would be accessible through same IP.
