Issue:

Deploying a large number of probes via Admin Console causes the UIM system to become unresponsive for a period of time.

The following components may become unresponsive and may display errors:

Admin Console

Unified Management Portal

Infrastructure Manager

During this time, the following log entries in controller.log on the primary hub may be seen:

Sep 12 15:13:38:567 [7476] Controller: nimSessionWait: more than 64 objects, checking again

Cause:

This issue can be caused when automated_deployment_engine spawns more threads than the controller is capable of handling.  This can be observed on primary hubs that have a large number of cores and the distribution list contains a large number of targets.

automated_deployment_engine calculates the optimal number of threads based on cpu resource available and incorporates a limiting factor.

At 2 cores, it will use 8 threads.

At 4 cores, it will use 18 threads.

At 8 cores, it will use 35 threads.

Resolution:

  1. Open automated_deployment_engine Raw Configure
  2. Click New Section
  3. Enter automated_deployment_engine
  4. Check Create at root
  5. Click OK
  6. Click the automated_deployment_engine section
  7. Click New Key
  8. Enter the key name of numThreads
  9. Enter a value of 4

Additional Information:

It may be possible to increase the numThreads value higher than 4 in your environment.  Increase the value slowly until the system exhibits the unresponsiveness issues again and then back that value down 10-15%.
