Description:

The above error can occur when attempting to run the CA Workload Automation AE Agent 11.3.x ( cybAgent ) on AIX 6.1 or 7.1. A key symptom of this problem is the agent failing to start. There may be little or no agent log activity with only the runner_os_component.log getting created.

The AIX errpt facility may contain messages like:

 IDENTIFIER TIMESTAMP T C RESOURCE_NAME DESCRIPTION
 A924A5FC 0806144713 P S SYSPROC SOFTWARE PROGRAM ABNORMALLY TERMINATED
 A924A5FC 0806144713 P S SYSPROC SOFTWARE PROGRAM ABNORMALLY TERMINATED
 A924A5FC 0806144613 P S SYSPROC SOFTWARE PROGRAM ABNORMALLY

Solution:

This problem is a result of an AIX security feature.

AIX 6.1 and 7.1 have a security feature called Stack Execution Disable (SED) to prevent "buffer overflow vulnerability exploits".

The CA WAAE Agent is currently not compatible with SED. The AIX system administrator will need to create an exemption within SED for the cybAgent binary to allow execution.
