The following procedure is only a guideline for creating custom Data Shopper views and is only one of many possible customizations.
Please contact CA Technology Services if you need further assistance in the customization of your Web Pages. Please note that per Chapter 8 page 14 of the Advantage Repository for Distributed Systems Administrator Guide 2.2

Warning! Do not edit the predefined view collections-Repository Explorer, Repository Administrator, and Data Shopper-themselves, because your changes will be overwritten when a new version of the software is installed. Instead, create your own view collections with unique names using either the View Configuration tool or the View Copy utility.

Creating a custom Data Shopper View Overview

Creating a custom Data Shopper view is a simple three step process.
Step 1. Copy the default DataShopper to you new Data Shopper view (This Example uses the View name "Data Shopper Custom")
Step 2. Copy the path reports from the default Data Shopper View to your Custom view.
Step 3. Modify your new Icon Lists in the custom view and edit the proeeglobal.inc file to use your new View and Icon Lists.

Step 1. Copying the Default View to your new Custom View

By using the "View Copy" tool supplied with the ARDS 2.2 product, you can quickly make a duplicate of any View in the Repository.

  1. From the Start > Programs > Computer Associates > Advantage > Repository CA-ARDS dropdown menu select the View Copy program.

  2. The Advantage Repository View Copy - Login box will display

    1. Choose your repository from the drop down list.
    2. Keep the default user Id or enter your own (must have Repository Administrator Privileges).
    3. Enter your password and click on the Next> button.
  • If your repository has never been modified you will see the following.

  • Select the Data Shopper View and click the Next button.

  • In the next window enter your new view name and check the "Add view to the Repository Administrator role and regenerate" box

The Advantage Repository View Copy - Finish window will be displayed with the information you entered

  • Click on Finish to start the View Copy Process. The program will display a status window with details while the copy is in progress.

Once the Copy is complete with no errors you will get the following window

  • Click on the OK button to close the program.

    Proceed to step 2

  • Step 2. Copying the path reports from the default Data Shopper View to your Custom view

    1. From the Start > Programs > Computer Associates > Advantage > Repository CA-ARDS dropdown menu select the Path Report Copy program.

    2. The Advantage Repository Path Report Copy - Login box will display

      1. Choose your repository from the drop down list
      2. Keep the default user Id or enter your own (must have Repository Administrator Privileges)
      3. Enter your password and click on the Next button.
  • If your repository has never been modified you will see the following.

Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the other views in the repository. Note that the "Data Shopper Custom" view exists.

  • Pick the first path report (Topics and Categories) and click on the Next button. The Advantage Repository Path Report Copy - Choose Name window will appear.

  • Copy the name of the report from the "Path Report to Copy:" box and paste it into the "New Path Report Name:" box.

  • Enter a description of the Path report in the "Path Report Description:" box

  • Select the View you created earlier.

  • Click on the Next> button and the Advantage Repository Path Report Copy - Finish window appears

  • Verify your information is correct and click on the Finish button. A status window will appear with the program's progress; and once the copy is completed sucessfully, you will get the following window.

  • Click on the OK button to close the program.

Repeat steps 1 thru 10 for all the remaining Path Reports in the default Data Shopper View.

  • Step 3. Modifying your new Icon Lists in the custom view and editing the proeeglobal.inc file to use your new View and Icon Lists.

Now that you have your new View created and the path reports copied to it, you need to modify the view so it looks presentable in the Data Shopper.

    1. Verify that the Repository Engine is started. From the Start > Programs > Computer Associates > Advantage > Repository CA-ARDS dropdown menu select the Repository Client program.

    2. Select your Repository Engine from the drop down and enter your Repository Administrator's Id and Password. Click on OK.

    3. You should now have something like the following screen.

    4. Choose the Repository Administrator View Collection and click on the OK button. When the next screen appears choose Publication Tools. Finally click on the View Configuration Icon to start editing you new custom view. The window will now display

    5. Expand the Data Shopper Custom View by clicking on its "+" sign. Your Repository Explorer should look like the screen shot below

NOTE: The (1) appended to each name was created by the View Copy. Each time you create another View from the Data Shopper view this number will increment by one ( i.e. (2), (3), (4) ...etc)

    6. Because of the use of a new view collection and the renaming of the Icon Lists you will need to edit the proeeglobal.inc file. Below is what this example needs to be

      session("ShopperCollection") = "Data Shopper Custom"
      session("ShopperFinder") = "Search Items(1)"
      session("ShopperButtons") = "Data Shopper Container Button(1)"

Also if you leave the Icon Lists below the "Data Shopper Container Button(1)" list alone the display in the Data Shopper will look like this:

    7. To remove the (1)s from the display just edit them in the Repository Client (remove the (1) from the Name of the 6 Icon Lists below the "Data Shopper Container Button(1)" Icon List. Do not forget to "Save". See screen shot below:

The Data Shopper display for the Icon Lists edited above now looks like this.
