This document details what steps to take when the Content Download Job fails immediately after starting its execution with errors in the log

     'Applications' must have at least one Application node.

In order to verify this is the case, check if the file ...\CA\SC\CIC\logs\CIC.log shows error lines like:

2011-01-25 17:49:40,114 [CCMain] INFO [] - fd057b0f-2469-4c2d-9c21-bbbc9a473605 -- download_file 2011-01-25 17:49:40,114 [CCMain] ERROR [] - 'applications' must have at least one application node 2011-01-25 17:49:40,114 [CCMain] ERROR [] - Failed to complete content server applications configuration 2011-01-25 17:49:40,114 [CCMain] FATAL [] - Failed to configure CIC, aborting _____________________________________________________________________________

contentdownload is used to download signatures for 2 different products

CA Client Automation - CA Provided Signatures
CA Patch Manager - Link to the Patch( which is then used to download the Full Patch and all it's files)

CA Client Automation - All Versions

1.  Go to CA\SC\CIC\conf folder

2.  Open config.xml with WordPad or Notepad ++ .

3.  Look under the Application Area of the config.xml file :

     Is there anything listed Under the Application Area ?

No Application.jpg

4. You need to have at least Application, in that area, so the program know what to download.

    Run one or both of the following commands to register an application into CIC, depending on what CA software you are running:

       UPM -     Util.bat -R UPM 682DCD15-5C94-4321-842D-E3944D3CA000 PMUPM-00000-00000-00001 upmuser_group  sa  <sa password>

       DSM -     Util.bat -R DSM B1B13849-08D1-4DA6-91EA-2D278E5F00CC PMDSM-00000-00000-00001 ca_itrm_group  sa   <sa password>

   You can also just copy the Application Area from the config.xml from another Server.

   Here is what the config.xml > Applications Area looks like with DSM and UPM registered to contentdownload.
