Introduction:

How to create a Process Group Monitor using SystemEDGE to trap when the expected number of like processes are not running.

Instructions:
The following example will demonstrate how to create a Process Group Monitor to alert when there are less than 5 instances of the "java.exe" process running on the server.

Using VAIM (managed mode):
  • Create a processgroupmon entry

  • Create a threshold monitor with processGroupMonEntry and pgmonNumProcs
  • Set threshold to less than 5
  • Use the same process name\regex provided in for the processgroupmon entry.

Manual "sysedge.cf" entries (unmanaged mode):
  • monitor processGroupMonEntry java pgmonNumProcs 11 0x0 60 absolute < 5 'Less than 5 Java Processes Running' '' processGroupMonEntry java pgmonNumProcs major
  • watch procgroup java 11 0x0 60 '' '' none
The resulting entries are created in the sysedge.mon file (active monitors)
