Configure ODBC for SQL database TLS 1.2 for CA Business Intelligence

Introduction:

With the TLS 1.2 support for SQL database, existing CA Business Intelligence ODBC connection would need be reconfigured with the new ODBC driver.

Otherwise, when use CMC, it would fail with error like this in the log:

SAP BusinessObjects BI platform CMS: Unable to connect to the CMS system database "BO_CMS_SDM_DEV". Reason: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SSL Security error 
35101 The root server reported an error Initialization Failure. (Reason: SAP BusinessObjects BI platform CMS: Unable to connect to the CMS system database "CMS_DSN". Reason: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SSL Security errorSAP BusinessObjects BI platform CMS: Unable to connect to the CMS system database "CMS_DSN". where CMS_DSN is the ODBC connection to CMS Sql database

Question:

How to Configure ODBC for SQL database TLS 1.2 for CA Business Intelligence?

Environment:
Windows, CABI 3.X, 4.X integrated with CA Service Desk
Answer:

Follow these steps:

1. From CABI install server, open the ODBC Data Source Administrator.

2. Locate the DSN CMS_DSN and then click on "Configure" button. And then change its name to "CMS_DSN_OLD" and finish the configuration.

   Please notice that here you would need to replace CMS_DSN with the real DSN name in the CABI error.

3.Download and install " Microsoft ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server - Windows"  driver from Microsoft site:

   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3135244/tls-1.2-support-for-microsoft-sql-server

4.From ODBC Data Source Administrator, create a new system DSN. You would need to name it as CMS_DSN and configure using the new driver

   installed in step 3. The driver is "Native Client 11 Driver"

5.Connect to CMC and make sure connection works
