After upgrading to a zEC12 machine, at IPL time during CAMASTER initialization a CATHW03W message may be generated indicating machine type 2827 unknown. Please note that the message is a warning and will not cause any system or product functionality problems.
Some CA products are moving from Assembler based code towards Metal C based code. Metal C provides support for additional optimized instructions provided by the zEnterprise architecture. In order for CA products to easily identify the machine type the CAMASTER address space determines and populates an area in storage with the hardware that it is executing on. If the hardware is zEnterprize, CA products may potentially load and execute the version of their modules that can take advantage of these optimized instructions for some highly used portion of the product.
If CAMASTER is unable to identify the machine type, CA products that have taken advantage of the new instruction set would have to load the "non-optimized" version of their modules and will not be able to take advantage of the advanced instruction set.
Download and install PTF RO52997. This PTF will add the zEC12 definition to the internal CAMASTER hardware table.
Please note that an IPL is required to implement PTF RO52997 as the CAMASTER address space only initializes once at IPL time.
