Can't start dxserver (Error: itechpoz does not exist)

Introduction:

After filling up the filesystem we are unable to start the dxserver.  We cleared enough space but won't start

Question:

Client ran out of space while eem was running. They regained the space and killed the dxserver. 
Now they cannot get the dxserver to run. It states the following: 
-sh-4.1$ dxserver start all 
Starting all dxservers 
itechpoz does not exist 

No logging is produced in the dxserver trace. 

Answer:

There was no dxserver process running. We check via ps -ef | grep dxserver. 
However, in the $DXHOME/pid directory there was 2 files. This is were the old PID info was being kept. We deleted both files. Then the dxserver was able to restart.
