Question

Can GRLoader be used to connect maintenance windows to Configuration Items (CIs) within CA Service Desk Manager (CA SDM)?

Solution

Maintenance Windows cannot be set on a CI through GRLoader. This is because maintenance/change window data is stored in a non-CI table.

For a mass import of maintenance/change windows, we recommend that you build a load file and then use PDM_LOAD to load the data.

The following steps is a rough guideline as to what is involved:

1.  Make a backup of the usp_ci_window table with the command:

pdm_extract usp_ci_window >usp_ci_window.txt backup

2.  Create a load file, which would look something like this

TABLE usp_ci_window
 nr_uuid window_id
 {"UUID" ,"window id" }
 {"UUID" ,"window id" }
 {"UUID" ,"window id" }

The UUID would need to be replaced with the "id" value taken from the ca_owned_resource MDB table for the CI.

The "window id" would need to be replaced with the "id" value taken from the usp_window table MDB of the maintenance window.

You can put as many items as you want, in a similar fashion.

3.  Load the file with the command:

pdm_load -f filename.txt -I

This should perform a load of all the CIs to the Maintenance Window.

Note that gathering all the required UUIDs info may take some time.

As always, we recommended testing all changes in a non_PROD environment first.
