Description:

Similar to connecting to CICS or IMS or other subsystems as an application entry on the main TPX menu, what needs to be done to connect to a TELNET session?

Solution:

CA TPX is a session manager that is dependent on VTAM/SNA. Once you are in a TPX environment all traffic is via VTAM/SNA.

There is no 'direct' connection to TELNET from TPX.

  • TELNET uses TCP/IP protocol.
  • TPX uses VTAM/SNA protocol.

TPX is VTAM dependent. In order to access TELNET from TPX, VTAM should also have the ability to interface with Telnet.

Presently CA TPX cannot directly interface with any TCP/IP protocol based application.
