Description:

When I am in a Project, Hierarchy, Parents page it is not allowing me to see any Idea Investments to select as a Parent Investment.  Also, can I group Ideas into a Hierarchy - where you have one Idea as the parent to multiple Ideas as the children?

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Navigate to Project Listing, open a Project and go to 'Hierarchy' Tab
  2. Now go to 'Parents' page, Click 'Add' button
  3. Enter the name of a known 'Idea' Investment : 'myIdea1000'
  4. Click 'Filter' button

No results are shown. Is this working as expected? Why can't I add the Idea as a Parent on the Project Hierarchy?

Solution:

In the Demand Management Guide it states that Ideas can only have 'Parent' Investments. Ideas can have a 'Parent' investment but it cannot be a 'Parent' to other Investments. Ideas cannot have 'Children' investments.

If you navigate to an Idea, Hierarchy page you will notice that it does not have the 'Financial Roll-up' nor the 'Effort Roll-up' pages; it only has a 'Parents' page. This is because Ideas cannot have 'Child' investments.

If you want to see the 'Roll-up' information for an Idea Investment, add a 'Parent' Investment of another type such as Assets, Projects, Applications, Services, Other Work, Products.

Idea Hierarchy:

You can only add Parent investments to an Idea that are of another Investment Type - such as Assets, Applications, Services, Products, Projects, Other Work.
When you navigate to the Idea Hierarchy tab, you only see one page and it is for adding a 'Parent' Investment.
You cannot add any Child investments of any type to an Idea (which means an Idea cannot be a Parent)

All other types of Investment Hierarchy:

When you navigate to any other Investment Type Hierarchy Tab, there are two pages ; one for adding 'Child' investments and one for adding 'Parent' investments.
When you are in any other type of investment and you are selecting a 'Parent', you cannot select an 'Idea' because it cannot be a Parent for any investment type.
When you are in any other type of investment and you are selecting a 'Child', you can select an 'Idea' because it can be a child for any of the other types of investment - such as Assets, Applications, Services, Products, Projects, Other Work.
