During the TMSCTLG the following message occurs:
Lookup Error: VOL=047569 FSQ=1 VSQ=1 DSN=MEDTAPE.FQA.MEDQC.MEDFIL.COPY.RFRSH2
FDBK=5 1ST VOL DOES NOT MATCH
The messages are saying that we found an entry in the TMC for this data set and the user catalog was pointing to a different volser than what we were processing. The tape that was not cataloged would be scratched and if we found a tape that matched the catalog entry we would not scratch it.
Regarding this message we don't have action required. This is an informative message. TMSCTLG treats the TMC data set as an MVS catalog error and thus expires it.
With the Real-time Catalog Interface, CA 1 updates the TMC as you catalog or uncatalog tape data sets. This feature helps ensure that the CA 1 TMC and system catalogs are properly synchronized and allows you to reduce the number of CA 1 daily maintenance jobs. In this case the TMSCTLG doesn't need to be executed.
When you set the option OCTLG (found in the TMOOPTxx member of the CTAPOPTN library) to NO, you can stop running the catalog maintenance program TMSCTLG, removing two steps of your daily job for CA 1.
Using this option, TMSCLEAN program processes the tapes under CATALOG control by checking the tape catalog flags to ensure that the tape is not cataloged before CA 1 expires, and scratches the tape. TMSCLEAN does the processing that TMSCTLG used to do. This feature eliminates two programs from the CA 1 daily job stream and also eliminates the time spent by TMSCTLG to locate the ICF catalogs for every data set under CATALOG control. If you have unshared ICF catalogs, this feature eliminates the need to do IDCAMS LISTCAT for every catalog, which is used as input to TMSCTLG.
