Description:

CA SCM R12 GA Client for Windows Install fails due to an error during the setup portion of CA Enterprise Communicator 4.7.0b3 (also known as PEC 4.7.0b3). The failure is not consistent; it has been observed in Windows systems that contain a prior version of Enterprise Communicator (for example, in systems where Harvest 7.1 is installed and coexistence with SCM 12 is required); it has also occurred in Windows systems that do not have any prior version of Enterprise Communicator (for example, in Citrix systems on Windows Server 2003). Additionally, the problem can appear during both silent and interactive installations.

Solution:

As CA SCM R12 GA installs CA Enterprise Communicator 4.7.0b3 (PEC 4.7.0b3), the solution to this problem is to first install CA Enterprise Communicator 4.7.0b6 or higher (PEC 4.7.0b6 or higher) and then follow up with the CA SCM R12 GA Client install. In this case, CA Enterprise Communicator 4.7.0b3 will not install as part of the SCM Client because a higher version of the product already exists.
