Question:

The following error was returned when trying to retrieve data from Jasper Studio 6.2.1 and 6.4, via Jasper JDBC URL:

"Query execution error
The following problem occurred:
null
Do you want to proceed anyway?
<Yes> <No>"

This has happened since around May 2018, and was working normally before.

This is even though the Database JDBC Connection "Test" was returned as "Successful."

And the Data Source was able to find tables, such as "INV_INVESTMENTS" and its fields.

Environment:
CA PPM and Jaspersoft Studio.
Note that Jaspersoft Studio is different to the Jaspersoft Advanced Reporting within CA PPM.

Answer:
The database has been upgraded for CA PPM SAAS (On-Demand) users at around this time.

It is necessary to be running:
  • Jaspersoft Studio 6.4 (or later). This download is available from support.ca.com.
  • Matching JDBC drivers
You cannot point to the upgraded database using old drivers and Jaspersoft 6.2.

EXAMPLE
These screenshots were taken from a client system. Your system will have different database detail which will require updating.

The Database JDBC Connection should "Test" as "Successful."

The version of Jaspersoft Studio should be 6.4.2.

The old Database JDBC Connections should be cleaned out of the old connections, from this:

To this:

The red flag that your configuration will NOT work is if the word "CURRENT" (in green) is missing from against the Data Source.
The following screen is prior to upgrading to the latest Jaspersoft and trimming the list of connectors (above).

After cleaning up, this should be successful:

A successful test will allow you to enter a query such as the following, and then click "Next" without receiving the "null" error:

select name from inv_investments

From this next screen, you may continue as normal with your report design.
