Introduction:
We are using CA APM to monitor our CA APIM Gateways using CA Precision Monitoring API.
Question:
What is the best practice for alert implementation in this integration, to ensure the effectiveness of the gateways monitoring?
Environment:
CA Application Performance Management (CA APM) - CA API Management Gateway (CA APIM) Integration via CA Precision Monitoring API
Answer:
The CA APM - CA APIM integration through CA Precision API Monitoring comes with an out-of-the-box feature called Automatic Alerting. This feature looks for unstable response times. The more unstable the latency signal, the higher the variance intensity assigned by Differential Analysis. If the intensity gets high enough, Differential Analysis automatically kicks off tracing (on the APM agent side, not the Gateway where it is always running). The best thing about this features is that it's all set up for you already. If you like, you can associate getting an email or launching a shell script as part of an alert action. Differential Analysis evidence is also consumed by Assisted Triage, APM's automatic trouble identification and troubleshooting feature.
