Issue:

"Start Successors on Next Day" when unchecked should schedule in the same day tasks that can be completed on that single day.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new project with two tasks starting and finishing on the same day.
  2. Make the two tasks have 1h ETC.
  3. Make the two tasks Uniform loading pattern.
  4. Assign a resource to both tasks with enough availability to complete both in a single day (e.g.: 8h availability)
  5. Open the PPM Gantt
  6. Create a predecessor/successor dependency between the two tasks.
  7. Autoschedule with options. Make sure that the "Start Successors on Next Day" option is NOT checked.

Expected Results: Successor task is scheduled for the next day.

Actual Results: Successor task is scheduled for the same day.

Environment:
This issue has been reported for CA PPM 15.3.
Cause:

This issue has been reported to Engineering as DE38532.

Resolution:

This is not a defect, but working as designed.

The loading pattern will dictate the behavior of the scheduling. For Uniform loading pattern assignments, Autoschedule will allocate the resource usage on a daily basis in a task. The 'uniform' loading pattern will spread the 2 hours uniformly over the task date range.

Use the Front loading pattern instead. For Front loading pattern assignments, Autoschedule attempt to allocate resources as early in the task as possible.
