Introduction:

Oracle database 12c supports Multitenant option to configure and manage multi-tenant environments. The multi-tenant architecture enables an Oracle database to function as a multi-tenant container database (CDB) that includes zero, one, or many customer-created pluggable databases (PDBs). A PDB is a portable collection of schemas, schema objects, and non-schema objects that appears to an Oracle Net client as a non-CDB. All Oracle databases before Oracle Database 12c were non-CDBs.

Question:

Are the CDB and PDB databases in Oracle 12c supported for Service Management Products?

Environment:
Service Management 14.1/17.0Service Desk Manager 14.1/17.0Service Catalog 14.1/17.0Unified Self-Service 14.1/17.0All Supported Operating Systems
Answer:

For the moment, Oracle Database 12c CDB/PDB are not supported. Service Management products have not been tested with CDB/PDB type database. This has been confirmed by the Service Management Engineering and QA teams.

The recommendation is to use an Oracle non-CDB architecture which has been tested with Service Management products (Service Desk Manager, Service Catalog and Unified Self-Service)
