Agent fails to start due to "awtcpd not running for agent" error

Issue:
After awapi fails to start, the AgentService<timestamp>.log reports the following error:

AwE-5107 awcomm connection error (01/01/16 1:11 PM)
Details: R:<Agent_Name><Host>:<Port> <- 0.0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0:1099
awcomm connection error : <Agent_Name><Host>:<Port> <- 0.0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0:1099 : awcomm connection error: FAILED Error awtcpd not running for agent <Agent_Name>

 
This can occur if the Automation Engine Name is incorrect or can indicate possible data corruption.
 
Cause:
Generally occurs when the Master name is incorrect.
Resolution:
Try one of the following solutions:
  • Double check the Master name and make sure it is correct.
  • If Automation Engine Name is correct, remove the $AW_HOME/data/extract_file.dat or %AW_HOME%\data\extract_file.dat (Windows OS), then run awinstall option 1 to repair any potential data corruption.
