Question:

I received an error stating "DBA User do not have sysadmin privilege. Please provide the user with sysadmin privilege."

This seems excessive for installing a cumulative patch.  Why does the 14.1.x installer need sysadmin permissions on the database?

Environment:
Applying a cumulative patch to CA Service Management 14.1.x
Answer:

The common installer which installs the cumulative patches for CA Service Management 14.1 is based on the same installer that 14.1 uses.  Since the 14.1 installer needs to create the MDB, modify tables and schema, and create users, it requires sysadmin privileges on the database.  By extension, since the common installer is based on that, it checks for the same permissions even though it may not need to utilize all of them.
